Flamethrower Palm (Chambeyronia Macrocarpa)
The Flamethrower Palm is native to New Caledonia, a sub-tropical island
in the Pacific Ocean.
The rich green palm develops new fronds which can be of a flame-red color,
forming a spectacular arch above the main crown. The frond remains red for around two weeks
before turning green.
The palm is also notable for its bright green trunk with distinctive
green rings, as well as its shiny wide leaves which add to the lushness of the species. One
variation has a water-melon effect on the trunk, contributing to the overall beauty of the palm.
The most suitable growing enviroment for the palm is beneath a canopy
or large sheltering tree, with filtered light. Palms which are subject to full sunlight tend
to have bleached and dry leaves.
Flamethrower Palms can reach a height of around 65 feet (20 metres) and
thrive on a dense, moist, well-mulched ground cover.
